Library cards are free. A United States picture id is required for adults when the card application is completed. Minors need a parent's or guardian's signature on their application. Please notify the library staff with a change in name, address or telephone. Most library cards are valid for three years. The children's section include hard cover fiction and nonfiction books as well as a paperback collection. There are book-cassette kits and videos. The reference section includes encyclopedias, dictionaries, atlases, biographical materials and other helpful children's literature resources. The children's section provides 3 computers with numerous educational software for children.
The adult collection includes a wide variety of educational and recreational materials both in print and in various media formats. Newspapers include: "West Point News", "Wisner News Chronicle", "Fremont Tribune", "Norfolk Daily News", "Wall Street Journal", "Omaha World Herald", "Lincoln Journal Star" and "USA Today".
There are a wide variety of news and general interest magazines.
The libraries offers spoken audio cassettes (books on tape), videos, music on compact discs, computer information sources, microfilm and online databases.
Books, audiobooks, magazines, vertical fines may be borrowed for a 2 week period. Musical CD's and vidoes may be borrowed for a one week period. Fines are 5 cents a day for all overdue material. Materials that are not on hold my be renewed. Renewals will be taken over the phone as well as by stopping in the library.
Interlibrary loan or ILL allows patrons to borrow materials that belong to other libraries across the United States. The charge for borrowing is minimal--one dollar to search for the title and postage one way--fees usually total $2.50 to $3.00. Due dates are usually a month but will vary between libraries. When renewing materials please contact the library several days prior to due date.
A hold may be placed to reserve a particular title that is checked out of the library. Patrons will be notified by telephone when the reserved material becomes available. Upon notification, patrons will have 3 days to pick up reserved title. If remained unclaimed after three days, the title will return to general circulation. Library staff will check library shelves for material requested by phone and will set materials aside for pick up at the circulation desk.
Available Equipment at the Library
A laminating machine is available at the library. The cost is one dollar a running foot. Materials up to 23 inches wide will fit through the machine.
Microfilm and Microfiche Readers
The library has several microfilm readers. The newest reader is a state of the art digital reader and is equipped with a laser printer. Copies from this new machine are 25 cents per page. Copies made from the older printer are 10 cents a page.
A photocopier is available for public use. The cost is 10 cents a page.
Public Access Computers
The library has computers available for public use. Computers feature a wide range of software as well as the library's online catalog, the Internet, a word processor and spreadsheet. There is no charge to use the computers. Printing is available at 10 cents a page. Patrons must sign up at the front desk for a time on the computers. Minors must have a parent or guardian signed permission sheet before they will be allowed to access the Internet. A thirty minute time limit will only be enforced when other patrons are waiting to use the computers.
